For authoritative guidance, visit comcom.govt.nz. The Commission enforces the Fair Trading Act 1986 and parts of the Commerce Act 1986.
Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 (CGA)
When you acquire goods or services ordinarily acquired for personal, domestic, or household use in New Zealand, the CGA implies guarantees about acceptable quality, fitness for purpose, and timely delivery where agreed. Services must be carried out with reasonable care and skill. Remedies depend on whether the problem is minor or substantial; we follow the statutory pathway described on the Consumer Protection website.
Fair Trading Act 1986 (FTA)
We must not mislead you about price, features, sponsorship, or affiliation. Advertisements and landing pages should match—same trading name, contact details, and material conditions. If you believe we have misrepresented something, contact us first so we can correct the record promptly.
GST and pricing
Where GST applies to a taxable supply, we state whether quoted prices are inclusive or exclusive of GST before you commit. Invoices suitable for New Zealand tax records are available on request.
Cooling-off and online sales
New Zealand law does not impose the same automatic “cooling off” period for every online contract as some overseas regimes. Where a statutory cancellation right applies to your transaction, we will honour it and point to the relevant provision in writing.
